Budapest Festivals in August

August is one of the peak months in Budapest when it comes to festivals, most of which offer a cool night out with some great music, foods and drinks. The most well known world festival in August is Sziget Festival with its massive 70,000 music lovers from all over the world. But there are many niche festivals too: pick a food, music, cultural festival that suits your tastes and enjoy Budapest.

Sziget Festival, Szechenyi bath party festival, the Festival of Folk Arts, Budapest Fireworks on August 20 (Hungary’s Birthday Party) are the regular August events that make this month outstanding and incredibly spectacular.

The venues are varied, mainly on breezier parts of the city where the summer nights offer some cool entertaining options in greener settings, such as the scenic Margaret Island or the nice Varosmajor Park on the Buda side of Budapest. Bath Parties in Szechenyi Bath Budapest: the absolute summer night parties in the thermal pools outdoor in Szechenyi Spa & Baths in Budapest await approximately 5000 party goers, most of whom only travel to Budapest to be part of it. The Budapest bath party is scheduled every Saturday night with laser shows, and great DJs (electro, hiphop, triphop, funk). Festival of Folk Arts in the Buda Castle Budapest: the festival of Hungarian folk arts, crafts and traditions on the Buda Castle Hill.

Entry is normally FREE for Budapest Card holders to the Festival of Hungarian Folk Arts in Budapest, and you can also enter the museums inside the castle building free of charge. The last day of the festival culminates in the national celebrations and fireworks on August 20, Hungary’s birthday. Dates: August 17 – 18 – 19 – 20, 2019.

August 20 in Budapest with Budapest Fireworks Cruise: every year there is a fascinating Hungarian national day parade by the river Danube, also in the Buda Castle, expect to see dancers and celebrations at the Fisherman’s Bastion and Matthias Church, and in other popular venues in the city of Budapest. Date: August 20, 2019.

Street of Hungarian Flavours: The food festival offers a taste of local Hungarian foods and insights into Hungary’s gastronomy. The 2 day festival features various concerts. The event is on the Buda side of Budpaest by the bank of the River Danube, near Buda Castle Garden Bazaar (Varkert). Entry is free. Date (not confirmed yet): Aug 18, 19, 20, 2019

Budapest Short International Film Festival: the short film festival takes place in multiple locations, movies and open air cinemas/ locations. Date not confirmed for 2019 yet.

Budapest Summer Festival (Cultural & Music) with many events on the 75 year old Open Air Stage on Margaret Island: in June, July and August in 2019.

For requests to participate at the fair by renting a stall, we usually recommend contacting the organisers (the Budapest Crafts Folk Festival is organised by the Association of Hungarian Folk Artists, a national organization ) of the fair and festival at the email address: neszfolk [at ] nesz.hu, but please note that the festival / market is primarily presenting and promoting national crafts, local traditions, which is one of the biggest attractions of the fairs for tourists who are interested in seeing / trying / tasting the local specialties. That said, they might be open to cooperate, so do give it a try.
