March in Budapest celebrates the end of the winter cold with many good spring festivals to enjoy, Saturdays and Sundays are especially loaded in March.

Budapest Festivals – Easter in the Buda Castle

Without a doubt, the most prestigious and richest event in March / April is the Budapest Spring Festival, which in fact includes several other festivals. One of the major attractions of the festival is the accompanying Spring Market on Vorosmarty Square in Budapest city center.

But there are hundreds of events, concerts, shows, talks, workshops. Tickets are mostly sold out in advance so do not forget to book your tickets in advance while you can.

Bath Parties in Budapest: March is the month when the Magic Bath parties make the thermal bath lively every Saturday (from this month the venue moves to Szechenyi Baths). Dates: March 2, 9, 16, 23  and 30 in 2019

Budapest Dance Festival, the festival of contemporary dances in Budapest (is normally but not always set around the International Day of Dance on April 29). Location:  theaters and other venues. Date: 15 February – 2 March, 2019  in the National Dance Theatre in Budapest.

Big Pancake Day is a one day crepe/pancake food festival, a less advertised and most yummy program with lots and lots of different kinds of pancakes / crepes –  organized by Gasztrosetany. The venue is on the Buda side near Allee Shopping Mall. Date: March 8, 2019.

Orchid Festival and Fair in Vajdahunyad Castle: the Orchid fair has a beautiful location in the City Parkin Vajdahunyad Castle Budapest. The exhibition and fair displays orchid specialties and offers expert help and scientific talks / networking. The event is organised by the Hungarian Orchid Society. Date: 14-17 March, 2019.

Budapest March 15 National Holiday Processions, free shows on the historical national holiday in Budapest city on the 15th of March every year. Perhaps the best venue to pick on March 15 is the Buda Castle in Budapest. Date: March 15, 2019

St Patrick’s Day in Budapest Szabadsag Ter (Liberty Square): with approx. 1000 participants and an after-party after the processions, the green St Patrick’s Day is getting more popular in Hungary. Usually held on the closest weekend to March 17, the official date of St Patrick’s Day. Not scheduled, but very likely on March 17, 2019.

Macaron Day Budapest: a lovely dessert which deserves its own day. The French Macaron is
celebrated in March in the city center of Budapest.  More details on the official Facebook page. Date: March 20, 2019.

Budapest Easter Fair on Vorosmarty Square: depending on the moving dates of Easter, the nice spring fair is in downtown Budapest with free concerts, nice foods and drinks, and Hungarian Easter crafts. Date: 29 March-  28 April 2019.

Budapest Easter Fair in Vajdahunyad Castle: the Easter fair in the City Park in Budapest offers many hands on workshops for kids in Hungary to make traditional Hungarian Easter crafts, paint eggs, weave baskets in Vajdahunyad Castle. Easter exhibition and workshops in one place. Date: not confirmed yet for 2019.

Easter in the Buda Castle Garden Bazaar /  Várkert Bazaar : Várkert normally hosts a 3-day-long weekend festival with lots of family programs  and concerts over the Easter holiday. Address: Ybl Miklós square, 2-6 Budapest, District I, just under the Buda Castle, on the Buda side. Dates: not scheduled for 2019.

Purim in Budapest: various venues and events to celebrate Purim in Budapest (several synagogues in Budapest including the largest Dohany Street Synagogue, as well as Balint House a community center for Jewish citizens in Budapest, etc.) Dates: March 20, 21, 2019.

International Auto Motor Tuning Festival Budapest: the name of the festival says it all. Cars, motorbikes tuned. Detailed program for the weekend days available on the official website of the festival event. Date: March 22-24, 2019.

Budapest Yoga Festival: the March festival of Yoga fans with hundreds of Yoga people in Budapest. Try yoga, or join the big groups doing yoga. Date: not confirmed yet.

BIG Film Festival the festival of short films! Budapest Urania Film Theatre. (planned date not confirmed yet)

Total Dance Retro Festival: 1990s retro bands, dance styles and music celebration in Budapest Park Budapest. Get into the 90’s with style! Date  scheduled for May in 2019

Budapest Restaurant Week: a regular spring event, usually in March for food lovers. Taste Hungarian specialties at a reduced price during the Restaurant Week when many restaurants participate in the festival of restaurants. Date: not confirmed yet

Budapest Indian Festival: cultural festival in March in Budapest. It may not be repeated every year.

Hungarian Flavours Fair: Budapest food festival and Gastro Market set in March. Hand made and hand crafted food delicacies. Location Millenaris Park. Date: not confirmed yet for 2019

Hungarian Jazz Festival Budapest: the regular jazz event in Budapest Jazz Club. March jazz festival for jazz fans. Date: not confirmed yet for 2019

Travel Exhibition: hundreds of colorful catalogues presented by representatives of the international and local travel sector. This year, the event tackles the newest trends in the tourism sector, including the role of social media and digital innovations that affect the industry. The event was scheduled for the last weekend in February in 2019, not for March,  in Hungexpo Budapest Fair Center. Date: scheduled for February instead.

Easter Celebrations in Vajdahunyad Castle: the Easter fair in the City Park in Budapest offers many hands on workshops for kids in Hungary to make traditional Hungarian Easter crafts, paint eggs, weave baskets in Vajdahunyad Castle. Easter exhibition and workshops in one place. Date: around Easter every year.

Buda Castle Easter Festival: a former open air spring festival for all, from kids to adults, from foodies to culture vultures. The Easter Festival is up in the Buda Castle. Enjoy the shows, concerts, the local food specialties, Hungarian Easter traditions in one beautiful Budapest attraction. Festival tickets include free entry to the Hungarian National Gallery and the Budapest History Museum too. Location: Buda Castle. Date: cancelled.

Budapest VinCE Wine Festival:  wine lovers and enthusiasts who want to become wine masters. Enjoy Hungarian wines at the highest level possible in this March Budapest wine event but scheduled for April: 25-27 April, 2019 in the scenic Buda Castle Garden Bazaar by the river Danube.

      thank you for your inquiry. For such requests we recommend contacting the organisers (the Budapest Tourism Office of the city municipality) of the fair and festival at the email address: turizmus [at ] budapestinfo.hu, but please note that the Easter (just like the Christmas) Market is promoting national crafts, traditions, which is one of the biggest attractions of the fairs for tourists who are interested in seeing / trying / tasting the local specialties. These days it is very easy to buy foreign goods in the global market place so both occasions put heavy emphasis on trying to give an opportunity for those Hungarian craftsmen/ craftswomen who are representing the best of the best in traditional crafts making in Hungary.
